Post-Doc Composite Researcher
1. Educational Requirements:
- PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Science
2. Experience:
- Use of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) or other nanofillers in epoxy resin formulations for mechanical property enhancements.
- Polymer Chemistry experience with thermosetting polymers and fiber reinforced plastics (FRP).
- Laboratory research background including formulation science and mixture DOE with hands-on resin mixing and composite lay-up experience.
- Material property analysis including physical, thermal, and mechanical analysis techniques
- Polymer Structure-Property Relationships
3. Essential Functions:
- Research fiber reinforced composites in support of new product development.
- Develop new polymeric composite systems, most often for use in Aerospace applications.
- Document and present research findings with Product Development Team and clients.
Compliance and Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Lab Manager
Description
Serves as the subject matter expert for the site Environmental and Sustainability program and has in-depth knowledge of EHS regulatory requirements, particularly in carbon nanotechnology. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develops and implements EHS directives and procedures in a way that reflects knowledge and understanding of manufacturing, R&D and Distribution.
- Ability to create, develop and maintain both Safety Data Sheets (EU) and Material Safety Data Sheets (EPA)
- Demonstrates ability to review, analyze and interpret complex regulations (EPA, TSCA, NIOSH, OSHA, and ITAR as well as Consent Orders and Pre-Manufacturing Notices) in order to determine impact to manufacturing, R&D and distribution.
- Elevates concerns and recommends solutions for EHS related regulatory and internal program requirements.
- Demonstrates the ability to review and interpret consent orders and pre-manufacture notices
- Develops and delivers EHS presentations utilizing various tools to train others, communicate information and leverage better business decisions.
- Coordinates the timely submittal of EHS reports and permit applications required for facility operations.
- Monitors and improves EHS recordkeeping systems to ensure record-keeping compliance and facilitate analysis of data
- Manages performance of consultants and contractors performing work on EHS related projects.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with external agencies, internal customers and shareholders.
The Compliance/EHS Lab Manager also serves as a Lab Supervisor/Project Manager in training and supervising lab personnel and works as a chemist in the lab as well. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervises and manages functions and responsibilities of Laboratory Technicians
- Plans work load distribution and makes schedules on a weekly basis
- Evaluates quality control and quality assurance statistics and modifies manuals as needed.
- Develops a budget for the laboratory and maintains control of lab costs.
- Enforces safety procedures and consults with other supervisors about these issues.
- Consults with lab staff about local problems and interaction.
- Develops and coordinates broad goals, objectives and policies for lab personnel and staff.
- Supervises purchase of supplies and maintains equipment inventory.
- Evaluates lab personnel performance.
- Works on chemical testing and reactions as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
The qualifications and requirements for Compliance and EHS Manager include but are not limited to:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Management or Occupational Health and Safety is preferred; however, other degree disciplines, such as Bachelors of Science degree in Polymer Chemistry and/or Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or comparable area are acceptable if environmental management capability is demonstrated.
- Minimum of 2-5 years experience working in an EHS-related function with primary focus in Industrial or Chemical Hygiene, preferably in the research development or nanotechnology.
- Considerable knowledge of the basic principles and laboratory applications of polymer chemistry, material science, nanotechnology and chemistry.
- Ability to apply knowledge of information sources in advanced polymers, chemistry, nanotechnology and scientific methodology.
- Make and record scientific observations accurately, prepare and present scientific records and reports and observe safety precautions and precautions.
- Proficient technical writing and advanced math skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to diverse audiences at multiple levels within the company, using written, oral and multimedia modalities.
- Experience with program/product/process implementation.
- Working knowledge of common business software and communication applications such as Microsoft Office.
- Self-motivated to begin projects and work tasks without supervision or direction.
- Knowledge of current laboratory facilities, methods, equipment, materials and ability to perform standardized biological, chemical, and microbiological examinations independently.
- Knowledge of use of computers for laboratories.
- Knowledge of public health laboratory laws and regulations;
- Ability to carry out and consult with other departmental staff and the public on this issue.
- Ability to deal with staff and the public in a positive and successful manner.
